Wow, that was an exhaustive article! Very good analysis. But if bicycle paths to the mall existed or the streets were less dangerous for bikes the mall wouldn’t need half the existing spaces. this 3:1 parking ratio would be laughable to Europeans.

I've read a lot of comments across social media platforms about this issue, and the vast majority are angry about "having to pay" (you don't, just park 100ft further away) and saying that this is going to hurt an already struggling brick-and-mortar retail sector (the difficulty in finding a spot on a busy weekend seems to show that the mall certainly isn't struggling). But what I find the most funny are the comments along the lines of "well I haven't been to the mall in X years, but I definitely won't be going now!" or "this is why I shop on Amazon". Yes, the person who hasn't patronized the mall since pre-Covid now saying they won't go in the future is a big hit to the community.

Also a few, but any at all is too many, think that the parking should be free because their tax dollars pay for it? It really shows how the car has been so deeply ingrained into people that they don't understand how private parking lots actually function.
